"TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER!"

Leader and tippet set-ups in fly fishing are a bit like beer, everyone has their favourite and it’s often a fruitless exercise to convince them otherwise but I believe they are one of those often-over-looked facets that play a hugely important role in fly fishing. Too many of us just simply grab a tapered leader from a shop, feed those ridiculously bulky, factory tied loops onto our fly lines, whack a piece of tippet on the end, and go!

There is a lot of unnecessary complication added to leader setups, micro-rings being a pointless invention, serving a purpose of which I’m still not sure. They achieve nothing
