FAREWELL, ASHALATA WABGAONKAR

(JULY 2, 1941 – SEPTEMBER 22, 2020)

Ashalata Wabgaonkar was a multitalented personality. Not only was she an acclaimed theatre and film actress, who’d made her mark in both Marathi and Hindi cinemas, she was also a trained classical singer. And had reportedly learnt music under the tutelage of renowned vocalist (musical drama) artiste. Her most famous musical was the acclaimed She displayed her range in the play by playing a character whose arc ran from 18 to 80 years. She loved theatre and rubbed shoulders with the who’s who of Marathi theatre, doing plays like (where her co-stars were Smita Patil and Sadashiv Amrapurkar) and She also acted in and several other Marathi films.
