There was a time when James O'Connor was the infant terrible of Australian rugby. He was talented for sure, but no one knew which position was his best or to how to get this young man to apply himself, commit to the highest professional standards and give his career a chance to flourish.

He couldn't stay out of trouble due to, among other misdemeanours: missing the official team photo for the 2011 World Cup; being filmed in a burger bar at 4am a few days before a test against the Lions and having a fist fight with Quade Cooper and Kurtley Beale in Paris.
