I WAS BASICALLY THROWN INTO TRAIL RUNNING. I signed up five days prior to a race to help a four-person team at Surf Coast Century. My section was 21km along the beach and through the ocean. It was slightly horrifying at the time, with the slippery/sharp rocks, the rising tide and a pack that grated my back off, but that spectacular sunrise sucked me in, along with the beautiful camaraderie.
