Routine Wins
There will have been times in our personal cycling history where bad habits have dragged down our form and fitness. Consistently switching off our morning alarm and making those much needed training sessions too haphazard. Not preparing your bike the night before and cutting precious minutes from your morning session. Failing to see that it’s your exorbitant nightly portion size that’s seeing your times on your favourite Strava climb slump. Humans are creatures of habit and, arguably, bad habits are easier to form than good ones.
While habits and traits can be damaging, if we can recalibrate them to be a positive force in our riding lives then we can soar to new heights. So we delved into our contacts book to consult some of our most successful cyclists on a global and national scale to discover the good habits that have shaped their careers. From former British national time trail champion Hayley Simmonds’ focussed meal preparation, to ultra-endurance rider Josh Quigley’s setting of short-term goals and Olympic team pursuit winner Elinor Barker’s off-the-bike training, we bring you 10 (good) habits of winning cyclists that you can adopt for your routine.
