Sixth HVSI round funds 28 heavy vehicle safety projects

Twenty-eight road safety projects have been allocated a share of $5.5 million funding via Round 6 of the Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI).

The federal government, with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR), backed new education, research, training and technology initiatives that aim to deliver improved safety outcomes for the heavy vehicle industry and wider community.

The initiatives include education programs for younger drivers on how to share the road with heavy vehicles and field-testing safety chain solutions to prevent heavy vehicle trailer separation incidents.

Recipients this year include the:

• National Transport Insurance (NTI) crash reduction• Livestock, Bulk and Rural Carriers Association (LBRCA) heavy vehicle rollover prevention program (HVRPP)• Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) best practice load restraint and tyre management• Clearly Brothers young driver education program for sharing the road with heavy vehicles• additional health and wellbeing funding for Healthy Heads in Trucks and Sheds and OzHelp foundations.
