How to stop birds straying

I know several people who are convinced they lose more birds over their boundaries in October than they do in August and September combined.

A combination of the birds maturing and quite naturally wanting to spread out, their favourite feeding places becoming less attractive as the leaves fall off the trees and the weather changes, and stubble fields that were rich pickings post-harvest being turned in and drilled — it can all move and unsettle birds that had seemed to be there for the duration.

Couple this with the shorter days making it harder for people to dog-in
