In the dark on wild boar trail

A week had passed since the eventful day when we’d been called to trace two roe in 24 hours. The first, a buck, had been shot and lost at dusk, while the second was the victim of a traffic accident. On each occasion, I’d been joined by Wout, a tracker I was mentoring. Now, I was about to put his skills to the test again.

It was early in the morning when a colleague called and asked if I could search for a wild boar. He was unable to do it himself so, of course, I agreed. The ethical code within our group obliges us to help one another out in these types of situations. I phoned Wout to see if he fancied coming
