Let’s hear it for our dairy farmers

Dairy farmers are price-takers in terms of both inputs and outputs. Input suppliers determine the price of farm requisites, while milk buyers determine the price they are prepared to pay for milk.

The number of dairy farmers decreased from 7 600 in 1998 to 1 600 in 2020. Total milk production, however, increased steadily from 2 600 million litres in 2009 to 3 300 million litres in 2019.
