Compact fours offer plenty of choice

If you are an existing Valtra user you will have something of a head start when it comes to deciphering what the four-cylinder ‘N’ series has to offer. You will also appreciate that just because a given series was launched at a certain time it does not mean this is the date when a given series became available in the UK. The N4 series, for example, was launched back in late 2015 but it was not until later in 2016 that these models started to reach UK customers.

The current N5 models have also seen a delay in getting to customers, although this time the reasons why are obvious. What this has done is create strong demand for relatively scarce late N4 tractors. Regardless of make or model, the market for good used tractors demands patience and the right level of investment to secure the right buy.

In the beginning

If you are not familiar with how Valtra outlines its models and core specifications everything will be clearer once you get the basics sorted out. First up is to appreciate the N series, launched back in 2005, initially filled a gap between the also recently renamed four-cylinder Valtra C and M models. The two model ranges spanned a nominal 90-150hp and 120-150hp respectively, the ‘new’ N models pretty much duplicating the same power choice.

Confusingly, the existing 6000 models remained available for a while too, albeit with a basic specification, but it is no wonder the Finns earned a reputation for offering plenty of choice and much buyer confusion. As an aside, six-pot power is
