The French have a strange relationship with Americans. On one hand, the Good Ol’ US of A saved them twice in the world wars, and there is respect for the sacrifices made. On the other, they consider Americans generally loud, overweight and crude. However, when it comes to big-engined American race cars at Le Mans, the locals have been fascinated by them. This also seems to have spilled over into the realm of slot cars – there are a lot more out there than you might think.
The ball got rolling back in 1950 when entrepreneur and sports car racer Briggs Cunningham took a by the French crowd. Boutique slot manufacturers Top Slot made a resin kit version about 15 years ago. The one you see here was built by French model maker Denis Bontemps.
