Stellar winning drives by Andrew Hibberd and Jake Hill topped last weekend’s 78th Members’ Meeting as the Goodwood Road Racing Club’s seventh school sports event of the venue’s modern era.
It had been 18 months since the last one at the motor circuit, but the intensity of inter-house competition was if anything heightened by the Covid-enforced delay.
The race programme showcased more than a century of motorsport history, from the mighty 200bhp Darracq and lofty Fiat S76 of SF Edge’s Brooklands era to the Group 1 saloons of the early 1980s.And while the twin-legged Goodwood Super Special rally stage – introduced for last October’s SpeedWeek stopgap event – was punctuated by dramas, Stig Blomqvist’s participation and the presence of an ex-Roger Clark/Ari Vatanen Ford Escort RS1800 delighted fans.
