Keyboard maestro and space fan soundtracks an incredible journey.
Somewhere between Mars and Jupiter there’s an asteroid named after Vangelis. No, really. The artist’s 1976 concept album was an early indication of his fascination with space, and his grandiose synthesised coincided with the Mars Odyssey craft entering that planet’s orbit in 2001. Fifteen years later, Grammy-nominated was dedicated to the titular mission that led to the first landing on a comet by a probe. Before that, his landmark electronic score for 1982’s was as crucial to that movie’s fabric as Harrison Ford’s trenchcoat.
