Resina Speechless

is the darkly tense, atmospheric new album from Warsaw-based cellist and composer Karolina Rec, better is a cinematic album that roams into unexplored and fascinating territories. Resina’s cello, voice and electronics are merged into a complex sound palette with the 23-piece 441Hz choir and then packed with the drumming of Mateusz Rychlicki, who injects drive, momentum and energy. The cello and choir are electronically manipulated, enabling Resina to build swirling, other-worldly walls of sound that slide and cascade in this beautifully imagined landscape. Elements of classical music fuse with choral, contemporary, minimal, drone, ambient and industrial to create a diverse tapestry that seems to veer off unexpectedly anytime it starts to feel settled. Quiet moments jolt into crashes of sound, just as pockets of peace drain to leave almost unbearable tension and dread, and just like any semblance of order, slipping away and revealing the chaos underneath.
