    Dad, look at the quokkas!’ my daughter, Ruby, 11, exclaimed.

    Standing on sunny Rottnest Island, I felt on top of the world.

    We were on an adventure, sailing 1500 kilometres from Dunsborough to Exmouth, WA, on the yacht I lived on.

    Ruby loved sailing too, and when she’d asked to join me on this month-long trip, her mum, Sara, agreed.

    My partner Tracy, 39, had waved us off, while joining us on the boat were Dane, Jordan
