Her name is synonymous with Sissinghurst, so it is sometimes forgotten that Vita), with whom she enjoyed a passionate love affair (her marriage to Nicolson was famously relaxed). Sackville-West's poetry led to her briefly being as a poet . 's best-selling novel (1928) was a time-travelling biographical fantasy portrait of Sackville-West, her ancestors and Knole, although Sackville-West had already explored her family heritage in (1922) and, in her novel of the same year, she vented her feelings about her lost inheritance. (1930) used Knole as the setting for a re-creation country- days remembered from her childhood.
