STUDY SEQUENTIAL PATTERNS

Hello again! Over time, your knowledge will develop as you increase your awareness of various melodic devices. Some of you may have already investigated popular strategies such as grouping notes together, or you may have explored permutations to help broaden your horizons.

One method that is particularly effective is the study of sequential patterns. The concept is relatively straightforward—but first let’s identify the chord tones produced by your chosen vocabulary.

Once we’ve got this, we can then start to envelop these pitches with additional diatonic information.
