Can startups save us-At least they’re trying

Temperatures are pushing 50°C in Canada and Italy. Floods are wreaking havoc in Belgium and Germany. Wildfires are burning up Greece, Russia and the west coast of America. Rain was recorded atop glaciers in Greenland for the first time ever. The latest edition of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report wasn’t even necessary to spark worry and concern about climate change, but we had that too, with a warning that humans had caused an “unprecedented” impact on the world’s environment.

There are clear and obvious steps to take — fossil fuels need to be aggressively replaced with renewables, for example — but to avoid the worst damage, we need innovative solutions across a variety of industries in a multitude of ways. The World Economic Forum believes that digital technology could help slash emissions around the world by 15% within the next decade, which is too little far too late, but technological innovation could help buy us some time to make bigger changes.
