BRINGING YOUR CRAFT TO LIFE WITH CAT FROM CAT RABBIT
“Seeing my characters come to life feels like a full-circle moment.”
My creative process requires lots of time at my desk, with all of my materials around me. I sometimes half sketch ideas, butIt also depends on the fabric. I often inherit great stashes of wonderful fabrics from friends and sometimes they inform what the character will be or what they will be wearing. I once received a lovely wad of distinctly hedgehog-looking fabric and so it was obvious what I had to do there. Once a character forms on my desk, it’s hard to resist even more. I am only an amateur in the field of stop motion – my animations are wobbly and wonky – but I think that suits the vibe of my work, which is also wobbly and wonky. Seeing my characters come to life feels like a full-circle moment. I still have so much to learn, but I love that the subtle movements of a character can do so much for a narrative, so much story can be packed into one little gesture. For me, starting my own business is a slow and steady process. I like the feeling of , whether it be creatively, acquiring a new piece of equipment, or just getting better at doing my tax return. I’m in it for the long run, so I don’t feel there’s any need to rush.
