ost are well aware that too big a carburettor has downsides, it gives a weaker signal to the carb jets so low speed power disappears, but generally we only view an exhaust as a restriction so bigger is better right? In my youth I had a Hillman Imp Sport with a mere 875cc and 55 bhp. Looking for more power I fabricated an enormous (by Imp standards) manifold and system, it looked good and sounded great (OK, very noisy) but it made it slower.
