Our Place in the Sun
Like the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the 2020 Dubai Expo was postponed when the pandemic paralysed the world. With their decision, the expo organisers asked the participating countries to revisit their submitted themes for their respective pavilions according to relevance to the crisis and the feasibility of construction. Royal Pineda, of Budji+Royal Architecture+Design and director of the Philippines Pavilion, was however unperturbed. With materials and labour both sourced in Dubai, he saw no disruption of construction from his end.
