Fine weather for pheasants, but not so much for fish

It is time to take a fond farewell of September, thanking my favourite month for the many pleasures that it has once again given me. This September my pheasant poults have perhaps been the chief of these pleasures for, as in August, the weather has smiled on them and they have prospered mightily. I have not seen a single bird with gapes; I have not seen a single bird looking sorry for itself.
