A FOND FAREWELL TO HB&R’S FOUNDING EDITOR

Long-time readers of this magazine may still recall the story of founding Editor Peter Harris’s self- build which, like an elongated episode of , was serialised over several issues back in the mid 1990s. It was the idea of developing that plot, in the garden of his home in a Monmouthshire village, that inspired Peter – who died on 9th June, aged 68 – to launch a magazine for people interested in building their own home. By packaging the concept in a way that seemed to make it accessible to everyone, the 1990 launch (as this magazine was then called) was pivotal in helping to make self-build the popular dream it is today.
