The New Crew’s Pocketbook

by Tim Davison

This little book gives a huge amount of absolutely basic information for newcomers to sailing. It includes a packing list, useful knots, getting on and off the boat, docking, buoys, the heads, sailing specifics like hoisting the mainsail, tacking and winches, and emergencies.

Correct nautical terms are used throughout, and there’s a labelled diagram of a yacht, as well as a glossary at the back. Each topic is covered clearly
