SA’s economy, and its farmers, buck the negative trend

Statistics South Africa recently released the GDP figures for the second quarter of 2021 and the updated figures for 2020.

The economy shrank 6,4% in 2020, but thereafter recovered, growing by 1,2% year-on-year (y/y) in the second quarter of 2021, and by 7,5% y/y in the first half of 2021. The mining and manufacturing sectors grew by 25% and 17% respectively, followed by the trade
