that's life!

Welcome!

why, you may ask, is there a picture of American billionaires Bill and Melinda Gates on this page? Well, when I came to write my letter this week, I realisedinbox yesterday, I found an email from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation telling us we’d been awarded $5 million in pandemic relief. All I had to do was click on a link for info on how to collect my money. Now, there is no question that the team are getting tired of living in lockdown and really missing being together in the office. But we are also aware a great many Aussies are doing it much tougher, so we are happy to do our bit to help our community get through this challenging time. But how, we all wondered, tongues firmly in our cheeks, did Bill and Melinda know we could do with a lazy $5 million? Liz joked she’d been doing quite a bit of online shopping lately, so her share would come in handy. Amber said she’d quite like a new car. While Beth suggested that, when the borders are open, we could treat ourselves to a team bonding trip to a Greek Island – flying first class of course! But after we’d all had a laugh, I deleted the scam email. It was a timely reminder that, while the note we received was clearly ridiculous, a growing number of emails, letters, texts and phone calls doing the rounds weren’t as obviously fake. Lots of them are very clever forgeries sent by people who are highly skilled at scamming innocent individuals. Our fabulous Ms MoneySaver, Sam Ireland, tackles this subject this week on page 61. I encourage you to read it and take care.
