Through the ages, edible gardens have played their part, especially when survival depended on what you could grow to eat. Growing fruit and veg have recently risen in popularity, owing not just to the current global pandemic, but also rising food costs and people wanting a more sustainable lifestyle.

Growing vegetables

Being able to harvest your own fresh, healthy and delicious veg is one of the most rewarding of all gardening activities. Vegetables are often divided into three groups depending on the part of the plants we usually eat.

1 Fruit and seed vegetables, such as beans, peas, capsicum, eggplant, tomatoes, sweet corn and cucurbits like pumpkins, squash and zucchini.

2 Leaf and stem vegetables, such as cabbage, celery, lettuce, rhubarb, silverbeet and spinach. Broccoli and cauliflower are usually included in this group, too.
