Can you tell me where my Scottish ancestor comes from?
Q My 3x great grandfather, Lawrence Wright (born July/August 1876, Glasgow), came to Durham, England, from Scotland to marry Annie Foster on 8 April 1898. He died during the First World War (in France on 18 July 1916) serving with the 19th Battalion Durham Light Infantry (Service Number: 19/1267). However, prior to him appearing in England, I cannot find any reference to him in Scotland at all. He just seems to appear out of nowhere when he moved. Where did he come from, and who are his parents?
Morgan Davies
Although Lawrence Wright’s service record with the Durham Light Infantry on Ancestry () notes “Nothing know [sic] of deceased soldiers’ parents”, it states that he was born in Glasgow in), nor is he in the 1881 Glasgow census.
