CLASSY COUNTY!
I first spotted Donald Duffus’ immaculate-looking County 944 at Biddenden TractorFest in 2019. I wanted to get in touch with him soon after that event but the you-know-what intervened and so, here we are, a couple of years later finally getting a closer look at this interesting and beautifully presented machine.
The 944 was added to the County range late in 1971 and was based on the popular Ford 7000 skid unit. This model, of course, was powered by a turbocharged engine producing an impressive 94hp and, as standard, this model was fitted with a Duncan cab. Donald’s model is cabless but, at this stage, he knows little of its specific history, so it’s not clear whether its cab rotted away over the years or, for whatever reason, it was never specified with one in the first place.
First impressions
Like so many other tractor enthusiasts of a certain age, Donald’s affection for Ford, Fordson and County tractors goes right back to his formative, childhood years. The impressions made at that time are always powerful ones and, in Donald’s case, have remained with him to this day.
