Review: Roland Fantom 6 V2.5
Our conclusion from the first Fantom review a good two years ago was: „ Digital sound generation in proven Roland quality, supplemented with analog drive and filter as well as direct operation make the Fantom 6 a very interesting synthesizer which, however, still seems somewhat immature. It remains to be hoped that Roland will upgrade the Fantom via updates and thus „justify“the rather high price. What was then actually subsequently added by way of free updates not only clears up a large part of the criticisms mentioned at the time, but even exceeds our expectations in many areas. But one thing at a time:
Vocoder and lots of new sounds
The system update 1.5 brought the Fantom improved acoustic sounds in the form of the SuperNATURAL Acoustic Strings and Brass, thus defusing our criticism of the quality of the acoustic instruments expressed at the time. The quality of the included presets in the built-in synthesizer engine had also not really impressed us in the first test. Here, too, Roland massively stepped up its game with this update: The compatibility with ZEN-Core allows an exchange with devices such as Jupiter X, MC-707 and the Zenology
