CATSKILL CONQUEST RALLY
It says volumes about COVID-19’s impact on New York State and the collector vehicle hobby’s normally busy calendar when the only event this correspondent covered during 2020 was the Catskill Conquest Rally’s fourth-annual staging on Saturday, Sept. 26. Given this unprecedented activity drought, it wasn’t surprising some 60 cars, many already driven two-plus hours from New York City or Connecticut, ultimately departed for the rally from the Maurice D. Hinchey Catskills Visitor Center in Mount Tremper. Their owners were obviously stoked to start a socially distanced 77.7-mile drive to Unadilla as the fall foliage colors were reaching critical mass atop ancient, forested mountains that were once as high as the Himalayas.
