When Sir Francis Fatt-Catt floated his payday loans to an online gambling empire. And spend it they did: the cellars, visitor centre and tasting room are a vision in marble and glass that, most importantly, is bigger and better than any of his ‘woefully unambitious' competitors. ‘For me, this is about creating a legacy rather than a quick buck,' he said to his accountant Eddie Excel over a glass of his first ever vintage of Fatt-Catt Brut. ‘Just as well,' muttered Eddie, ‘this project could prove that the only way someone like you will ever make a small fortune in this business, is to start with a huge one.'
