Xigugu
What is it? Pronounced “shi-gu-gu”, it’s made of roasted corn and peanuts, ground and seasoned with salt and sugar.
Where’s it from? A Tsonga-Shangaan traditional treat that’s particularly symbolic for malovolo (bride wealth) negotiations.
What does it taste like? Smoky, subtly sweet, peanutty, popcorny, and buttery. Like peanut brittle, all grown up.
