“Because of Lima’s altitude, our local guide told us to have a cup of coca leaf tea and sleep for three hours on arrival to help us acclimatise,” recalls stylist Jana Pokorny of the shoot she produced with photographer Nicole Bentley. “All of us followed his instructions, except for our new photo assistant who decided to sightsee instead. The poor girl was so sick we had to call emergency medical assistance. For the rest of the trip, she travelled with a mini oxygen canister that she inhaled incessantly. The rest of us were totally fine. Moral of the story: always listen to the locals!”

SALVADOR, BRAZIL

“I’d always dreamt of going to Bahia because it’s home to the best lacemakers in the world,” says Pokorny. “What I didn’t realise is it takes four to five days to get there and back, so we only had two days on the ground to shoot two huge stories with Nicole.
