When I’m feeling blue
EASED as we Californians are to share P with you for the year (), the ‘American railway magnate’ to whom it was sold was Henry E. Huntington, founder of The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens outside Los Angeles. More than 800,000 people pass through annually (pre-Covid) and view this portrait opposite its, in Huntington’s former house. This is not a case of a UK treasure lost to the world forever—rather a generous public bequest that has allowed many hundreds of thousands more global visitors to see it than ever would in its previous incarnation in a country house.
