The 6.5-284 Norma Superior
Q I quote from an article by (you guessed it) an American gun writer who said “I am convinced that the 6.5 Creedmoor is a super effective hunting round.” I own a rifle in 6.5-284 Norma and hunt with two mates who own 6.5 Creedmoors and they both admit my rifle shoots flatter and hits harder than the over-hyped 6.5 Creedmoor. What do you think?

I owned an used a 6.5-284 for a number of years and it showed excellent long range accuracy accompanied by substantial downrange energy and mild recoil. It is not only an excellent hunting cartridge, but it has performed well in 1,000 yard benchrest competition, NRA Long Range High Power matches, and F-Class competition. My pet load used 53n of Re-22 to drive the Barnes 130gn TSX at 3080 fps and launch the 140gn Woodleigh PP SN at 2800fps with 54gn of Re-25. I used standard large rifle primers in my 6.5-284 but used magnum caps with Winchester 780 ball powder. Try the Swift 140gn A-Frame on big deer. The Creedmoor doesn’t inspire me; in my opinion the 6.5-284
