Readers of this series may well have spotted a connecting thread between the Victorian sportsmen featured. Both Frederick Selous (7 July) and Abel Chapman (21 July) were born in the same year and went to Rugby School, with Chapman eventually joining Selous for a hunting safari in South Africa.
