For the love of country

Vassallo created a fundraising cookbook to support farmers dealing with floods, fires, droughts, poor commodity prices, trade embargoes and whatever other challenges come their way.

As the ancient proverb goes, mighty oaks from little acorns grow. So when food writer, editor, stylist and publisher Jody Vassallo had a chance conversation with photographer Luisa Brimble about how she would like to do a cookbook to help struggling farmers, she had little inkling of how it would pan out.

As Jody, who lives, teaches yoga and hosts guests in a studio retreat in the village of Tilba on the NSW south coast, explains in the foreword to the book, she told Luisa she’d reach out to her old buddy Jamie Oliver and ask for a recipe. If he came back to her, she’d know that the idea had legs.
