“I’ve created art and been devoted to self-expression for as long as I can remember, be it through drawing, painting, jewellery-making or photography, but I stumbled upon the medium of quilts totally by chance,” American artist Sheila Frampton-Cooper tells us.

In 2009, Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr Day, which marks MLK Jr’s birthday, fell the day before Barack Obama’s first inauguration as president. In honour of MLK’s birthday, Obama issued a Call to Service, encouraging Americans to volunteer in their community in whatever way they could. Sheila says, “I entered my zip code on the website to see what was needed in my area of Southern California. One of the causes that popped up was Project Linus, an organisation that provides blankets and quilts for children in need. It was stated that
