STILL FIGHTING FOR CHANGE

Back in May 2011, the UK reeled in shock after Panorama aired a documentary showing the abuse of patients at Winterbourne View, a private hospital for adults with learning disabilities and autism in Hambrook, Bristol, mostly accommodating patients who were detained under the provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983. Hidden cameras caught horrific mistreatment, including patients at the facility being slapped and dragged across the floor by support workers.

A total of 11 staff members – two nurses and nine support workers – admitted 38 charges of ill-treating patients. All were asks, has anything really changed?
