MARTIN DASHES TO NATIONAL TITLE GLORY

After several years of looking like one of the men on the cusp of a big win when it comes to major championships, Derek Martin finally got it all right at Hednesford.

He qualified with a scant points lead that put him on pole, a position he ultimately turned into a dominant National championship victory. Challenger and fellow front-row starter John Christie was eliminated mere seconds after wresting the lead away from Martin in what was the winner’s only real scare.
