Laughingthrushes are active, noisy birds which are often seen among zoo collections. The term “laughing” comes from the range of distinct vocalisations made by members of the group, and songs range from the distinct laughter of the white-crested laughingthrush (Garrulax leucolophus) to the more subtle but varied repertoire of the black-throated laughingthrush (Pterorhinus chinensis).
