Pilgrims in the Lake District

THE JOURNEY began, that July day, with a pick-up in the minibus and it was well past midnight when our party drove quietly into ‘Little Howe’ campsite, by Thirlmere in the Lake District.
Exhausted, we fell asleep to the sound of sheep bleating and the occasional bark from one of the farm dogs, upset by our late arrival.
The following morning, pulling back the curtains of the caravan and opening flaps on the tents, we looked out on all that was hidden from view the night before.
