Homes & Interiors Scotland

ALEXIS BASSO Potter

grew up in a small village in eastern France surrounded by countryside. I spent a lot of time in nature, building treehouses and making things out of wood. I don’t remember being particularly interested in design or craft back then, though. It wasn’t until I was studying architecture at the ENSA Normandie that I consciously learned about design and aesthetics. My formal education was largely based on the principles, which I think are clearly visible in my work today. I lived in cities during most of my adult life but that is certainly not where I feel at peace. There’s plenty to do, with the shops, the restaurants and the museums, of course, but it’s just not for me. In the Highlands, the pace of life and preoccupations are quite different. These are simple things but they give me great satisfaction. Being up here is a relatively new thing and I am still in the process of setting up a studio.
