What was the first camera that you ever owned? My first camera was a black, rectangular Kodak point-and-shoot film camera that my grandparents gave me for Christmas when I was about 9 or 10 years old. It was about equal parts plastic and metal, and I’m pretty sure its entire list of “features” would just be that it had a flash and that it only used 2 AA batteries. I think it probably cost less than $50 new.
Still, I loved that camera, and I squeezed every penny’s worth out of it. I carried it with me for over a decade, through 4-H photography projects, through junior high and high school, and even through a year as an exchange student in Germany, which also included a group trip to several countries. After reliably shooting hundreds of rolls of film, my Kodak finally gave up the ghost in 2002, when I was back in Germany as a university student.
