THE CITY OF love & lights

What is the allure? City of love? City of lights?

Our dream trip has been in the planning for years. A week in Paris for me and a week in Rome for my husband, Bertie. We had been to both cities as part of packaged tours in 1992, and again in 2015. Of all the impressive, beautiful places, they were the two we wanted to return to. We wanted to live in each for a week and experience all the delights they have to offer, or as much as we could without rushing.

In preparation, I watched endless YouTube videos of the usual touristy sights, some lesser known gems, accommodation, useful tips on dos and don’ts, what to take and what to leave – even how to fit everything into a carry-on suitcase, although there was no way I would go to Paris with a carry-on only.

We left on an autumn Saturday evening in 2019
