There are three main forms of skin cancer: malignant melanoma, which develops from melanocytes – the cells in the skin that produce melanin when exposed to the sun – and non-melanoma skin cancers, which include basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Other forms of skin cancer are rarer.
