Banish the bugs

IT’S A BEAUTIFUL, warm, sunny day and you’re heading out for a ride. You’ve sprayed your horse from head to tail in fly spray but still the flies buzz around and irritate him. What else can you do to help deter them?

Quite often, fly spray alone isn’t enough to keep the flies at bay. There is a wide range of feed supplements on the market claiming to assist with these nuisance bugs, some of which may also help to maintain good coat and skin health. However, it is important to note that much of the idea behind how effective fly feed supplements are is anecdotal, as Dr Derek Knottenbelt explains.
