It was March 2020, and the world was becoming a very different place for everyone.

Across the globe, the coronavirus was spreading, and lives were about to irreversibly change forever.

At the same time, the marriage of Michelle and Nicholas Boat hit crisis point.

After being married for two decades, with two teenage children at their home in Pella, Iowa, they were fighting constantly, and Nicholas announced that their relationship was over.

Laundry worker Michelle was left reeling – although she was well aware they’d both been unhappy for a while.

Their break-up enabled Nicholas to pursue his friendship with a woman he’d met that month on Facebook.

Tracy Mondabough, 47, lived in nearby Ottumwa, and had four children.
