The Spanish ship curse
THE dangerous waters around the Channel Islands have caused countless shipwrecks over the centuries, but legend tells of a pack of no-gooders from Jersey who used lights to lure Spanish ships not to safety, but to a stretch of dangerous rocks. Their plan was to wreck the ships and loot their treasure. An old man aboard one of the Spanish ships realised their ruse and pleaded with the ‘salvagers’ to save his daughter, also on board.
